Biography
Ledger was his mom's first born. In her vigor to cut the cord and do it herself, she mistakenly chewed the skin off his tiny toes. The vet said put him down - nothing I can do. Well...I am me so I removed four metatarsals and hoped for the best. I am so glad that I did because I would miss the kisses and cuddles I get every time I pick him up. Since he has matured, we worked with the vet to determine next steps. He has had no issues, plays and runs with the best of them. We also worked with a prosthetics company to get him a rocker for the botton of the leg which we could use if he were to go out on gravel or paved areas for longer walks. We did this more to protect that leg bone from abrasions than anything else. He hasn't needed it thus far. Worse case scenario, someone lets him continuously exercise on concrete or gravel, the bottom of the leg gets abraded and infected and the leg will need to be partially amputated. That would require someone who doesn't pay any attention to their dog. We wouldn't place him in a situation where that was even a possibility. In general, he is a beautiful boy with a coat that when grown out is stunning to look at and touch. He is currently in a short coat so that he can use the pool for exercise. He is crate trained and excellent in the house, vaxd, chipped. He is not neutered. We want him to retain his testosterone which assists in maintaining bone strength throughout his life.
